Industry Pundits: Hot Cloud Storage Disrupts Status Quo
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents their North American Technology Innovation Award to the company that has developed a product with innovative features and functionality that is gaining rapid acceptance in the market. The award recognizes the quality of the solution, but also the value enhancements it enables for customers. Based on their analysis of the hot cloud storage industry, Frost & Sullivan recently honored Wasabi with this prestigious award for 2017.
“Wasabi's goal is to offer customers a hot storage solution at the price point of cold storage, allowing high-speed data access with top-notch data security, while remaining economically priced,” said Sushrutha Sadashiva, Research Analyst, Frost & Sullivan. “Their foresight in recognizing that the storage industry will eventually have a one-size-fits-all type of cloud storage allowed the company to develop an affordable storage solution which is capable of accommodating the exponential rise of data inflow in the near future while meeting the needs of a wide range of customers.”
Hot Cloud Storage Disrupts the Status Quo
At Wasabi, we’re happily up-ending the traditional approach to storage in the cloud. According to Frost & Sullivan’s Best Practice Research Report on Hot Cloud Storage, “Wasabi’s emergence has greatly impacted the cloud storage market, with respect to two important aspects that highlight the company’s hot storage solution: pricing model and migration acceleration.”
Our pricing model is helping us gain new customers who are thrilled to get cloud storage that is 6x the speed and 1/5th the price of the competition. Better storage for a super-low price is pretty much a no-brainer, but Frost & Sullivan points out that our pricing model is having another revolutionary influence on the market:
“Wasabi’s disruptive pricing model, which is the main selling point of its hot storage solution, has been a catalyst for many new kinds of storage applications. In the past, when storage was expensive, organizations had to discard most of their data because they could not afford data storage. Wasabi’s inexpensive pricing model facilitates the materialization of applications that were previously not economically feasible.”
In addition to disruptive pricing, Frost & Sullivan reports that Wasabi is causing an impact by accelerating the migration from in-house storage to the cloud. That’s thanks in large part to our breakthrough pricing, but also to our “data warranty and hassle-free maintenance features, such as immutable buckets.”
We Can Reinvent Cloud Storage. We Have the Technology.
One thing people ask a lot is how we can offer cloud storage that’s so much faster and cheaper than the other guys. Frost & Sullivan addresses this:
“Engineers at Wasabi have a decade of experience in an arcane level of software development that focuses on how bits are placed on disks. This capability allows for a dramatic increase in speed while making more efficient use of disk space. Wasabi's low-level control of the disk drive’s read/write head provides the company with significant performance advantages and sets its technology apart from contemporaries that rely on Linux, Windows, or other operating systems to control head movement.”
We spent two years developing our solution and another year testing it. The price and speed of our cloud storage technology are the defining characteristics of this new category of cloud storage called hot storage.
We’ve Nailed Price and Performance. Oh, and Protection, Too.
Fast, cheap storage isn’t worth much if your data isn’t secure. Frost & Sullivan reports that Wasabi excels here, as well:
“Wasabi offers a unique feature of immutable buckets that cannot be deleted or altered, thus protecting valuable data from accidental or malicious destruction, which is not available with competing solutions.”
The report then goes on to cite our 90-day rotating integrity checks; 11 nines (99.999999999%) of durability; certifications in Service Organization Control (SOC) 2, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 27001, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), and Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) regulations; and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS).
Frost & Sullivan sums up Wasabi protection features thusly:
“This level of protection is noteworthy considering the [low] amount that customers spend on storing data in Wasabi’s hot storage.”
Setting the Bar High
We’re honored to be recognized by Frost & Sullivan for our hot cloud storage innovations. And we’re proud to have set “a benchmark among [our] peers, thereby disrupting the cloud storage framework that has been dominated by large companies, such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft.”
But the most exciting thing? We’re just getting started.
