Keep It Simple with Wasabi
In 2020, life is complicated. Navigating the noise of information overload seems like a full-time job at times. And when it comes to making sense of your IT overhead, reducing complexity can seem like a fool’s errand.
This is nowhere more apparent than in trying to parse your AWS S3 data storage monthly bill. Recent efforts by AWS to “simplify” their cloud offerings with S3 Intelligence-Tiering, a feature that is purported to intelligently migrate a company’s data to the most cost-effective storage class, does little to mitigate this confusion. Despite its best efforts to simplify, AWS continues to confuse with complex pricing tiers, data transfer charges, and costly API calls/ data requests.
So what’s the deal with AWS’s new data movement features?
AWS claims they’ve made improvements to their data storage services to reduce cloud costs for enterprises and to ease administrators’ work by automatically storing archived records in a different pricing tier. This intelligent tiering functionality moves data from a relatively expensive tier to a less expensive but by no means market-leading price point for inactive storage. Unfortunately for AWS, “less expensive” and “easier” than their former offering isn’t nearly where they need to be to compete with Wasabi.
Need for Speed
To cite an age-old truism: “time is money.” If you’re stuck using AWS’s new Intelligent-Tiering, we hope you have some time on your hands. According to a recent Silicon Angle article by Maria Deutscher, this new “intelligence” comes at a price: “The tradeoff is performance. The lower-cost storage classes are slower and as a result, take more time to fetch information.” It could take days in some cases! With Wasabi, you won’t sacrifice data recall times so end users can spend their valuable time on other more important work.
Cold Shoulder
AWS also recently reduced the price of one of their cold storage tiers, EBS Cold HDD storage, by 40%. What they fail to mention is that egress fees could end up costing more than the storage itself! Despite these cost-saving efforts, Wasabi offers hot storage for a fraction of the cost. Even AWS’ cold storage is still significantly more expensive than Wasabi’s single-tier and with Wasabi you get hot storage performance at ice-cold prices. This means that customers using our cloud storage platform get the best of all worlds: low cost, high performance, and high availability.
No More Tiers!
As Deutscher mentions in her article, AWS has “innovated” with a product it calls DataSync: “Because AWS provides so many capacity options, administrators sometimes need to move data between two different storage classes when workload requirements change… DataSync can now be leveraged to transfer records between Amazon S3, EBS, and Amazon FSx for Windows File Server.” The truth is, DataSync is a band-aid for a problem you’ll never encounter when using Wasabi. Single tiered pricing models, like Wasabi’s, make it extremely easy to calculate and predict your monthly cloud resource bill and Wasabi is also one of the only CSPs that doesn’t charge for egress or API requests.
Simple, Predictable, Affordable
Wasabi hot cloud storage is significantly less expensive and markedly faster than AWS S3, meaning it can be universally applied to any storage use case such as active archiving, backup, disaster recovery, storage for a custom application (active data), and more.
With Wasabi, switching to a more cost-effective cloud storage setup is quick and easy, and it allows you to immediately reduce costs. And, perhaps most importantly, it will help you simplify your cloud storage budgeting with intuitive pricing.
So, if you’re ready to receive a cloud bill that actually makes sense, from a cloud solution that outperforms Amazon S3 in nearly every way, consider Wasabi’s hot cloud storage solutions.
