Wasabi Expands Locations, Eliminates Egress Charges With New Direct Connect Service
BOSTON, Oct. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Wasabi, the hot storage company, today announced the expansion of its services and data center locations, including support for AWS Direct Connect and a new Wasabi Direct Connect high-speed connectivity option that includes the industry's first 100 Gb/s port speed option while completely eliminating variable metered costs. The company also announced that in just five months since launching, it has surpassed one billion objects currently in storage. Based on strong demand for its services across the United States and in international markets, the company announced plans to expand its data center locations to include Portland, Oregon later this year.
In May, Wasabi launched a new category of storage, called “hot storage” that delivers a simple solution that offers utility-like pricing without complicated pricing models and confusing storage tiers. Wasabi provides a single service with straightforward pricing that addresses nearly all cloud storage and bandwidth requirements. At 1/5th the price of Amazon S3 and 6x the speed of Amazon S3, Wasabi hot storage is the industry's most affordable and highest-performing storage solution built for this generation of enterprise data storage needs. The company's rapid growth demonstrates that it has the capacity and reliability to address the long-term storage needs and private connectivity requirements of the largest enterprises.
With today's announcement Wasabi's enterprise customers may now interface with its hot storage services using a variety of connectivity options including:
Wasabi Direct Connect – This connectivity option provides a private high-speed connection from customer data centers directly to Wasabi. Available port speeds are 1, 10, and 100 Gb/s. This option is geared towards mid-to-large enterprises seeking access to cloud storage over a private connection with a predictable, fixed-cost pricing model. Wasabi Direct Connect customers will no longer pay the $.04/GB Wasabi egress fee and can avoid the $.09/GB AWS egress fee. Other than a fixed monthly port usage price, no additional network ingress or egress fees are imposed.
AWS Direct Connect – This connectivity option provides a private high-speed connection from customer AWS environments directly to Wasabi. Available port speeds are 1 and 10 Gb/s. This option is geared towards mid-to-large enterprises seeking access to cloud storage from AWS EC2 over a private connection using AWS Direct Connect. Standard AWS bandwidth-variable port rates and AWS egress charges apply. Wasabi imposes no additional network ingress or egress fees.
Public Internet – This connectivity option provides a high-speed public network connection secured by SSL from the customer's premises directly to Wasabi. This option is geared towards customers that don't require a private dedicated connection such as Wasabi Direct Connect or AWS Direct Connect. Standard Wasabi data egress usage rates apply.
“Since our launch in May, Wasabi has seen a truly remarkable increase in demand for our revolutionary cloud storage service, demonstrating a strong desire and requirement for an affordable and fast storage global utility,” said David Friend, CEO of Wasabi. “Our breakthrough Wasabi Direct Connect service provides customers with even further value by eliminating egress charges, while providing a storage charge that is already 80% lower than AWS S3. We're trying to simplify the cloud storage market so that everyone can cost-effectively save the data they need to run their business. Wasabi is gaining increased traction because our continual innovation is delivering greater cost savings and better performance relative to any other cloud storage option.”
